We've built a product that security teams at Docker, Snyk, and other leading companies actually want to use. Now we need someone to make it even better.
You'll be our first designer, working directly with the founders and engineering team to incrementally improve how enterprise security teams experience threat detection. This isn't about redesigning everything from scratch - it's about identifying the right improvements, shipping them quickly, and making our platform more intuitive with every iteration.
Who we're looking for
You're a pragmatic product designer who ships. You understand the difference between perfection and progress. You can spot the 20% of design work that will deliver 80% of the value, ship it this week, then iterate based on real customer feedback. You're comfortable improving existing interfaces rather than always starting from a blank canvas.
You have a strong foundation in product design. 5+ years designing B2B SaaS products, ideally in technical domains like cybersecurity or developer tooling. You've worked on products with real users and real constraints, and you know how to balance user needs with business goals and technical feasibility.
You can work effectively with engineers. You understand enough about frontend development to have productive conversations about implementation. You know when a design requires significant engineering effort versus a quick CSS change. You can jump into the codebase to inspect existing components and understand what's feasible.
You're comfortable with technical products. You don't need to understand distributed systems architecture, but you should be able to grasp concepts like API tokens, webhooks, and cloud infrastructure. When engineers explain technical constraints, you see them as design parameters, not blockers.
You have excellent Figma skills. Components, auto-layout, prototyping, design systems - these are second nature to you. You can quickly mock up concepts for discussion and deliver detailed specs for implementation.
Bonus: You can code. If you're comfortable writing HTML and CSS , that's a significant advantage. Being able to implement simple design changes yourself or pair with engineers on complex interactions will accelerate our pace dramatically.
About the role
Reporting to our CTO, you'll work alongside our engineering team to continuously improve the Tracebit platform.
Your core focus:
- Ship product improvements weekly. Work with engineering to identify and implement high-impact design changes. You'll participate in customer calls, spot friction points, design solutions, and see your work in production within days.
- Make complex security workflows intuitive. Help security teams deploy canaries in minutes, investigate alerts efficiently, and understand attack patterns at a glance. Every improvement should reduce cognitive load and increase confidence.
- Evolve our design system incrementally. We have an existing product with established patterns. Our strategy is to improve and systematize these patterns over time, not rebuild everything. Document decisions, create reusable components, and raise the quality bar with each iteration.
- Balance customer needs with product vision. Listen deeply to feedback from Docker, Riot Games, and our other customers. Synthesize their requests into improvements that benefit all users, not just one.
- Work across product and brand. Beyond the core platform, you'll also improve our marketing site, create diagrams for documentation, and ensure our brand reflects the quality of our product.
- Collaborate with the entire team. Partner with sales to understand what prospects need to see. Work with customer success to learn where users struggle. Join engineering standups and contribute to technical discussions about implementation.
This role is hands-on. You'll be designing, prototyping, specifying, and in some cases implementing. As we grow, there will be opportunities to build and lead a design function, but for now, you'll be in the weeds with the rest of us.
FAQs
How is work organised at Tracebit?
It's a small, tight team - we have a standup everyday, each team member is usually responsible for delivering something reasonably large for customers and we meet every few weeks to talk about longer term plans. Between that - there's a tonne of discussions, customer feedback and analysis, but not a huge amount of process, the team is trusted to prioritise where to spend their time.
Where is the office?
The whole team works together in an office right next to Warren Street tube station - there are lots of great places to grab lunch nearby.
Are you doing hybrid/remote?
Short answer: No, but flexible on a day to day basis.
Long answer: We are set on building the company on a foundation of an office based culture. We are a very early stage company and think that we'll build the best company at the fastest pace we can whilst also having a lot of fun by physically working together 5 days a week. On a case by case basis (e.g. leaving early for a holiday, staying home for a builder, working remote for a few days to visit family, etc. etc.) we're very reasonable and flexible. We respect that this is not for everyone.
What are the working hours like?
We think 9am-6pm will bring a great cadence to work. As a Founding Product Designer there will definitely be times you need to pick up work outside of these hours, we're keen to limit this where we can but also offer flexibility in return.
